# Editing a contact's details

> Update a client's name, email, phone, company, address or contact type in CoreHue, and know what changing their email address affects.

People change emails, move house and get married. Keeping their contact up to date means your next invoice, gallery or message goes to the right place.

## Editing details

1. Open the contact and click **Edit** at the top of their page.
2. Change what you need. The form has **Contact type**, **Name**, **Email**, **Phone** and **Company**, plus **Address**, **City**, **State**, **Zip** and **Country**.
3. Click **Save**. You'll see "Contact updated".

**Country** takes a two-letter code, like US, GB or NG.

## What changing an email affects

From the moment you save, everything you send goes to the new address. That includes resending a document you'd already sent before the change.

Emails that already went out went to the old address, and that history doesn't change. If your client says they never got an invoice, check whether it was sent before you updated their email. **Email history** on the invoice or booking shows exactly where each email went.

> **When a client emails from a new address**
Update their existing contact rather than letting a second one appear. One person, one contact keeps their history together.

## Two contacts on the same email

If an email address is on more than one of your contacts, your contacts list shows "Also used by another contact" under each of them. That's usually the same person twice. See [Dealing with duplicate contacts](/docs/contacts/duplicate-contacts) for how to tidy it up.

## Changing lead or client

**Contact type** is on the same form. Change it to **Client** for someone you worked with before CoreHue, or back to **Lead** for someone who went quiet. See [Leads vs clients](/docs/contacts/leads-and-clients).

## Archived contacts can't be edited

If you open an archived contact, there's no **Edit** button. Restore them first with **Restore contact** in the notice at the top of their page, make your changes, and archive them again if you need to. You can still add notes while they're archived. See [Archiving and restoring contacts](/docs/contacts/archiving-contacts).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does changing a contact's details update documents I've already sent?

No. Documents keep the details they were sent with. Anything you create or send from now on uses the new details.

### Will my client be told I changed their email?

No. Editing a contact is silent. They'll just start getting emails at the new address.

### Can a contact have two email addresses?

No. Each contact has one email. If a client uses two, pick the one they read and keep it on their contact.

### Why can't I edit a contact?

A contact you can't edit is probably archived. Archived contacts have no **Edit** button, so choose **Restore contact** first, then edit.
