# Sending a contract for signature

> Email a contract to your client or share a link, see what they do to sign it online, and handle declined, expired or edited contracts in CoreHue.

Send the contract from CoreHue and your client gets a clear email with a button to review and sign. You can also share the link yourself, by text or WhatsApp, if that's where your client actually replies.

> **Limited on the Free plan**
The Free plan includes 5 contract sends in total. Plus and Pro send unlimited contracts. See [CoreHue plans](/docs/plans-and-billing/corehue-plans).

## Send it by email

1. Open the contract and choose **Send contract**, or choose **Save & Send** from the editor.
2. Check the recipient, then edit the **Subject** and **Message** if you like. The preview shows exactly what your client receives.
3. Send it.

The contract moves from **Draft** to **Sent**. Your client gets an email from your business with a **Review and sign contract** button.

Your contact needs an email address before you can send. If CoreHue stops the send because a variable can't be filled, it names each one so you can fix it. See [Variables and blanks](/docs/contracts/smart-fields-and-blanks).

## Share a link instead

1. Open the contract and choose **Share**.
2. Copy the **Contract link** from the **Share contract** dialog and send it however you like.

Sharing a draft asks **Mark as sent?** first, because once the link is out, the contract is live.

## What your client does

Your client opens the link and sees the contract on your branded client page. Then they:

1. Read the contract, with every variable filled in.
2. Complete any blanks under **Fill in the blanks**.
3. Sign under **Sign**, either by drawing with a finger or mouse, or by typing their name.
4. Tick the box confirming they've read and agree to the contract and consent to signing electronically.
5. Choose **Sign and agree**, then **Sign contract** to confirm.

They don't need an account. [Signing your contract](/docs/for-clients/signing-a-contract) is a client-friendly walkthrough you can send them.

## What happens after they sign

The contract becomes **Signed**, and you'll see it on your Home screen under **Needs attention**. A contract you sent yourself waits for your counter-signature before it's **Completed**. If you [pre-signed](/docs/contracts/counter-signing) it, it completes the moment your client signs.

CoreHue keeps a record of the signature: who signed, when, from which IP address and browser, and the exact consent wording they ticked. See [Is an e-signed contract legally binding?](/docs/contracts/are-e-signatures-legally-binding).

## Resending

**Resend contract** emails the same contract again, with the same link. It's handy when a client says they can't find the email. Resending never counts towards the Free plan limit.

For automatic nudges on unsigned contracts, see [Reminding clients about unanswered documents](/docs/questionnaires/document-reminders).

## Editing a contract after sending

You can still edit a sent contract as long as nobody has signed it and it hasn't expired. CoreHue asks **Update the sent contract?** and explains what happens:

- The existing link keeps working if the recipient email stays the same.
- A new link is created if you change the contact or recipient email.
- The earlier version is kept as private evidence.
- Your client isn't notified unless you choose **Save & send**.

## If your client declines

The contract closes as **Declined**, and a **Declined by contact** banner shows their reason if they gave one. A decline is often about one clause rather than the whole job, so it's worth reading the reason and talking it through. When you've agreed a way forward, edit a copy or choose **Reissue unchanged** to send the same contract again.

## If it expires

After the **Expiry Date**, your client can't sign and the contract reads **Expired**. Choose **Reissue contract** to send a fresh version.

## Voiding a contract

To withdraw a contract you sent by mistake or that's been replaced, choose **Void contract** from its menu. CoreHue warns you first: "Voiding is permanent. The contact will not be able to sign it." Your client sees the contract as **Withdrawn**. You can reissue a voided contract later if you need to.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does sharing a link count towards the Free plan limit?

Yes. On the Free plan, a contract counts toward the 5-contract limit the first time you either send it or share its link. Resending or sharing it again doesn't count a second time.

### Can I send one contract to two people?

No. Each CoreHue contract goes to one contact. If two people need to sign, such as both partners in a couple, send a contract to each, or have one person sign on behalf of both if your contract allows it.

### My client says they never got the email. What should I check?

Open the contract and choose **Email history** to see whether it was delivered. Then try **Share** and send the link directly. [My client didn't get my email](/docs/messages/when-an-email-doesnt-arrive) has more fixes.

### Can my client sign on their phone?

Yes. The CoreHue contract signing page is built for phones first, and drawing a signature with a finger works well.
