Saving photos to your iPhone or Android phone

Most people open their gallery on their phone, and you can save your photos straight to it. iPhones and Android phones handle downloads a little differently, so pick your phone below.

If you don't see a download icon on your photos, your photographer hasn't turned downloads on yet.

iPhone and iPad: one photo at a time

  1. Tap a photo to open it full screen.
  2. Tap the download icon.
  3. Enter your email and the download PIN if you're asked, and pick a size if there's a choice.
  4. The first time, a Save photo message explains what happens next: "The photo will open in a new tab. Touch and hold it, then choose Save to Photos." Tap Open photo.
  5. In the new tab, touch and hold the photo, then choose Save to Photos.
  6. Go back to the gallery tab for the next one.

You'll only see the explanation once per visit. After that, tapping download opens the photo straight away.

If nothing opens, your browser may be blocking pop-ups. In Settings → Safari, turn off Block Pop-ups, then try again.

The whole gallery arrives as a ZIP file, a single file with all your photos packed inside.

  1. Tap Download gallery and follow the steps on the download page. See Downloading your photos.
  2. When it's ready, tap the file (or each part, for a big gallery) and confirm the download.
  3. Open the Files app and go to Downloads.
  4. Tap the ZIP file. Your iPhone unpacks it into a folder.
  5. Open the folder, tap Select, choose the photos, tap the share button and choose Save Images.

For a big gallery, this is often easier on a computer. You can download there and copy the photos to your phone afterwards.

Android phones

One photo: open the photo, tap the download icon, enter your email or PIN if asked, and pick a size. It saves to your Downloads folder. Most phones also show it in Google Photos or the Gallery app, often in a folder called Download.

The whole gallery: tap Download gallery and follow the steps on the download page. The ZIP file goes to Downloads. Open your Files app, tap the ZIP and choose to extract it. The photos then appear in your Gallery or Google Photos.

Videos

Videos save as MP4 files. On an iPhone they go to Files → Downloads, where you can tap share and choose Save Video. On Android they go to Downloads. See Downloading videos from your gallery.

Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi for a whole gallery or videos. They're big files.
  • Check your phone has space. Original-size photos take up more room than you might expect.
  • Keep a backup. Phones get lost. Save a copy to a computer or a cloud service too.

Frequently asked questions

Saving directly from the gallery is switched off to protect your photographer's work. Use the download icon, which opens a copy you can save.

The photos saved to Files, not Photos. How do I move them?

Open the photo in the Files app, tap the share button and choose Save Image (or Save Images for several). They'll then appear in your Photos app.

Which size should I pick for my phone?

For keeping and printing, choose Original if it's offered. Web Size looks great on a phone screen and takes less space.

Can I save my favorites to my phone in one go?

If your photographer sends your favorites back as a download link, you can save them the same way as a whole gallery. Otherwise, save them one by one.
