# Creating a client gallery

> Create a client gallery in CoreHue in under a minute, from the Galleries page or straight from a contact, and see the settings every new gallery starts with.

Creating a client gallery in CoreHue takes one step: give it a name. CoreHue sets up the first chapter, sensible download settings and a download PIN for you, so you can go straight to uploading.

## Create a gallery from the Galleries page

1. Choose **Galleries** in the sidebar, then **New gallery**. On desktop you can also hover **Galleries** in the sidebar and click the **+**, or use **New gallery** in the quick actions on your home screen.
2. Type a **Gallery name**, like *Sarah & James Wedding*. This is what your client sees on the cover.
3. Add an **Event date** if you want one. It's optional, and when it's set it appears on the cover under the gallery name.
4. Choose **Create gallery**.

The gallery opens on its **Chapters** tab, ready for photos. Head to [Uploading photos to a gallery](/docs/galleries/uploading-photos) next.

## Create a gallery from a contact

When a gallery is for a particular client, start from their contact page. The gallery is linked to them from the beginning, so they're suggested first when you share it, and it shows on their **Galleries** tab.

1. Open the contact from **Contacts**.
2. Open **More actions** and choose **Create gallery**. If the contact has no galleries yet, the **Create gallery** button on their **Galleries** tab does the same thing.
3. The **New gallery** dialog notes which contact the gallery will be linked to. Fill in the name and date, then choose **Create gallery**.

Linking a contact doesn't send them anything or give them access on its own. [Linking a gallery to your contacts](/docs/galleries/linking-galleries-to-contacts) explains what it does.

## What every new gallery starts with

You can change all of these later. They're set up so a gallery works well the moment you publish it.

| Setting | Starts as | Change it in |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Status | **Draft**, visible only to you | The status badge in the header |
| Chapters | One chapter called **Featured** | **Chapters** tab |
| Downloads | On, offering **Original** and **Web Size (2048px)** | **Settings → Downloads** |
| Download PIN | A 4-digit PIN, already switched on | **Settings → Downloads** |
| Favorites (collections) | On | **Settings → Collections** |
| Slideshow, social sharing, Gallery Guide | All on | **Settings → Experience** |
| Design | **Frame** cover, **Refined** typography, **Porcelain** colors, **Regular** grid with **Tight** spacing | **Layout** tab |
| Web address | `yourname.corehue.co/` plus a version of the gallery name | **Settings → Sharing** |

> **Your client needs that PIN to download**
Because every new gallery has a download PIN, your client is asked for it before anything downloads. Tick **Download PIN** under **Include in email** when you share the gallery, or turn the PIN off. See [Using a download PIN](/docs/gallery-downloads/download-pin).

On the Free plan, clients download web sizes only, even though **Original** is ticked. The setting comes back into play when you upgrade. See [Download sizes explained](/docs/gallery-downloads/download-sizes).

## Renaming a gallery

Choose the pencil (**Edit gallery**) next to the gallery name in the header, or **Edit** on the gallery's card in your gallery list. The same dialog lets you change the event date.

Renaming doesn't change the gallery's web address, so links you've already sent keep working. If you do want a new address, see [Changing a gallery's web address](/docs/gallery-sharing/changing-your-gallery-address).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I set up a gallery before the shoot?

Yes. A new gallery starts as a draft that's invisible to everyone but you, so you can create it, link your client and choose the design ahead of time, then upload once you've edited.

### Does the gallery name affect the web address?

Only when you create it. CoreHue makes the gallery's web address from its name at the start. Renaming the gallery later leaves the address as it was, which keeps old links working.

### Why does my new gallery already have a download PIN?

Every new CoreHue gallery gets a 4-digit download PIN by default, so only people you've given the PIN to can download. Share the PIN with your client, or switch it off in **Settings → Downloads** if you'd rather not use one.

### Can one gallery be linked to more than one client?

Yes. One gallery can be linked to up to 10 contacts in **Settings → Details**, which is handy for couples or families.
