An expiry date gives your client a clear deadline to download their photos, and stops old galleries from sitting online forever. On the date you choose, the gallery takes itself offline. Nothing is deleted, so you can bring it back whenever you need to.

## Set an expiry date

1. Open the gallery and go to **Settings → Sharing**.
2. Under **Auto expiry**, choose a date.
3. Choose **Save** in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

The date has to be in the future.

## What happens on the expiry date

From the start of that day, in your account's time zone:

- Anyone who opens the link sees **This gallery has expired**, with a note asking them to contact you, using your business name.
- Shortly after, the gallery moves to **Unlisted** and the header shows it as unlisted. From then on, visitors see "This page isn't available", the same as any unlisted gallery.
- Your photos, videos, settings, favorites and activity stay exactly as they were.

You can still open the gallery yourself with **Preview**. Your time zone is set in your profile. See [Your profile settings](/docs/account/your-profile).

## Extend an expiry date

**Before the date:** go back to **Settings → Sharing**, pick a later date under **Auto expiry**, and save.

**After the date:** click the status badge in the header and choose **Publish**. Publishing clears an expiry date that has already passed, so the gallery doesn't go straight back offline. Then set a new date if you want one.

## Remove an expiry date

Clear the date under **Auto expiry** and save. The gallery then stays online until you unlist or delete it.

## Tell your client the date

CoreHue doesn't send your client a reminder before a gallery expires, so put the date in your share email. Something like "Your gallery is online until 30 June, so download your favorites before then" works well. See [Sharing a gallery by email](/docs/gallery-sharing/sharing-a-gallery-by-email).

## Expiry and storage

An expired gallery still counts toward your storage, because its photos are kept. If you're tidying up to save space, delete the gallery or the photos you don't need. See [How storage works for photos and videos](/docs/plans-and-billing/how-storage-works).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does an expired gallery get deleted?

No. An expired gallery goes offline, but its photos, videos, settings and favorites are all kept. Publish it again and it's back as it was.

### What time does a gallery expire?

A gallery expires at the start of its expiry date: midnight in the time zone set on your profile.

### Will my client get a warning before it expires?

No. CoreHue doesn't email your client before a gallery expires, so mention the expiry date when you send the gallery.

### My client says their link stopped working. Could it be the expiry date?

Yes, an expiry date is a common reason. Check **Settings → Sharing → Auto expiry**. If the date has passed, publish the gallery again and set a new date if you need one. See [My client can't open their gallery](/docs/troubleshooting/client-cant-open-gallery).
