Uploading photos to a gallery

Uploading photos to a CoreHue gallery is as simple as dragging a folder's worth onto a chapter. Uploads keep running while you move around your dashboard, and anything that doesn't make it is easy to retry.

Upload photos

  1. Open the gallery and pick a chapter in the sidebar. Photos land in whichever chapter you're viewing.
  2. Drag your photos onto the page, or choose Add media in the chapter toolbar. On the Free plan the button reads Add photos.
  3. Keep an eye on the upload panel in the corner of the screen while the files go up.

An empty chapter shows a Drop photos and videos here panel with an Add photos and videos button, which does the same thing.

On Plus and Pro, the same picker and drop zone take videos too, so you can drop a mix of photos and videos in one go. See Delivering video in your galleries.

What you can upload

Photos must be JPEG or PNG, up to 100 MB each. RAW files work on Pro once you've switched them on. Supported photo and video file types has the full list, including what to do with HEIC and TIFF files.

If a file doesn't fit, CoreHue tells you how many were skipped and why, for example "Each file must be under 100 MB." The rest carry on uploading.

The upload panel

The panel has three tabs: Uploading, Completed and Failed. Each file shows Waiting, Uploading or Finishing along with its size.

  • Retry one file from its row, or choose Retry failed to try every failed file again.
  • Cancel upload stops everything that hasn't started yet. You'll be asked to confirm, because pending uploads will be stopped.
  • Keep working. You can switch chapters, open other galleries or change settings while files upload. The panel follows you around the dashboard.

Closing the browser tab stops the upload, and CoreHue warns you before it does. Signing out cancels uploads in progress too.

Duplicate files

CoreHue checks file names against the photos already in that chapter and the ones still uploading. If any match, Duplicate files found lists them. Choose Upload (the button shows how many files are left) to send the rest and skip the duplicates.

The same file name in a different chapter is fine. If you want to swap an existing photo for a new edit, use Replace instead of uploading it again. See Renaming, replacing and checking photo details.

After a photo uploads

Each new tile shows Processing for a moment while CoreHue makes the viewing sizes that keep the gallery fast on every screen. If a tile says Processing failed, see When photos fail to process.

Once your photos are in, you can put them in order with Reordering and sorting photos.

When your storage is full

If an upload would take you past your plan's storage, CoreHue refuses it. The file's row shows Storage full and you'll see "Storage full. Upgrade or free up space to upload." Nothing already in your galleries is touched.

You can delete photos you no longer need or upgrade for more room. See How storage works for photos and videos.

What your client sees

If the gallery is already published, new photos show up for your client as they arrive. For a big delivery it's nicer to finish uploading while the gallery is still a draft, so your client opens a complete gallery the first time. Tips for uploading large galleries has more ideas.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Photo uploads keep going as long as you stay in CoreHue in the same browser tab, even if you open other pages and galleries. Closing the tab, closing the browser or signing out stops them.

Can I upload into several chapters at once?

Yes. You can start an upload in one chapter, switch to the next chapter and start another. Each file goes to the chapter it was added to.

Why were some of my files skipped?

CoreHue skips a file when it's in a format galleries don't accept, it's over 100 MB, or a file with the same name is already in that chapter. The message that appears names the reason, and the other files keep uploading.

Can I upload from my phone?

Yes. Add media (Add photos on the Free plan) opens your phone's file picker. For a full wedding or event, a computer on a steady connection is quicker and easier to keep awake.
