# Seeing who downloaded what

> Check which photos and videos your clients downloaded, by whom, at what size and when, in a gallery's Activity tab. Plus the download notifications you can get.

Check a gallery's download activity to see which email addresses were used and when downloads started. This can help you follow up before taking a gallery offline.

## Open the download record

1. Open the gallery and choose the **Activity** tab.
2. Click **Downloads**.
3. Switch between **Gallery**, **Single Photo** and **Single Video** at the top.

## What each view shows

| View | What's listed | Each row shows |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Gallery** | Whole-gallery downloads | The chapters included, the email, the size, how many files and when |
| **Single Photo** | Photos downloaded one at a time | A thumbnail you can click, the file name, the email and the size |
| **Single Video** | Videos downloaded | The file name, the email and the quality, such as **Video · 1080p** or **Video · 4K** |

A few things worth knowing:

- Whole-gallery downloads appear when your client starts saving the files, not when they first prepare them, and they're listed once however many ZIP parts there are.
- Your own downloads, made while you're signed in, aren't recorded.
- A download with no email attached shows as **Anonymous**.
- The record stays after a prepared download link has expired.

Every visitor gives an email before their first download, so nearly every row comes with a name.

## Get notified about downloads

Go to **Settings → Notifications** and look at the **Galleries** group:

| Notification | When it fires |
| --- | --- |
| **Downloads** | Photos or videos are downloaded one at a time |
| **Full gallery downloads** | Someone downloads the whole gallery as a ZIP |

Both show in the app and email you by default. Single downloads are grouped together rather than sending one email per photo. If you deliver lots of galleries and the emails get noisy, turn email off: everything is still in the Activity tab. See [Choosing which notifications you get](/docs/account/notification-emails).

## Using the download record

**Before chasing a client.** No downloads a week after you sent the gallery often means the email never arrived. Check the gallery's **Email history** (in the **⋯** menu at the top of the gallery) before you follow up. See [Checking which gallery emails you've sent](/docs/gallery-sharing/gallery-email-history).

**Before taking a gallery down.** If the people who matter have downloaded everything, the gallery has done its job.

**For your own curiosity.** The photos people download most aren't always the ones you'd guess.

## What the record doesn't show

There's no view counter and no record of how long anyone browsed. CoreHue doesn't track video views either, only downloads. If you want to know who opened the gallery, turn on [email registration](/docs/gallery-sharing/collecting-visitor-emails) and check **Activity → Email Registration**.

The Activity tab also has **Collections** (your client's favorites, see [Reviewing your client's favorites](/docs/gallery-favorites/reviewing-client-favorites)) and **Private Photos** (see [Letting clients hide photos](/docs/gallery-favorites/letting-clients-hide-photos)).

## Frequently asked questions

### Why is a whole-gallery download missing from the list?

A whole-gallery download is recorded when your client starts saving the files. If they prepared the download but never clicked a part, it won't appear.

### Why don't I see my own test downloads?

Downloads you make while signed in to CoreHue aren't recorded, so your testing doesn't muddy your client's history.

### Can I export the download history?

No, not at the moment. The download record lives in the gallery's **Activity** tab.

### Can I see who watched a video?

No. CoreHue records video downloads, not views.
