Collection settings for client favorites
Collection settings are four switches that decide how your client's favorites behave in a gallery. Most galleries work well with the defaults, so this is mainly about knowing when to change them. For the client side of favorites, see How client favorites work.
Where to find collection settings
- Open the gallery and choose Settings.
- Click Collections.
- Change what you need and click Save.
What each collection setting does
| Setting | What it does | New galleries |
|---|---|---|
| Allow collections | "Visitors can gather photos into named collections." Turns the star on or off. | On |
| Collection notes | "Visitors can leave a note on a collection and on individual photos." | On |
| Allow submission | "Visitors can submit collections and notify you." Adds the send button. | On |
| Lock after submission | "Prevent changes after submission." Appears when submission is on. | Off |
Allow collections
The main switch. Turn it off and the stars disappear from every photo, and the other settings hide. Good for a simple delivery where your client just wants their photos, not a task.
Collection notes
Lets your client leave a note on any photo in their collection ("brighten this one", "crop square") and a note on the collection as a whole. Leave it on for retouching and album work, where the notes save you a lot of back and forth.
Allow submission
Gives your client the Send to photographer button, which notifies you when they're done. Turn it off and they can still star photos, and you can still see their collections in Activity. They just don't have a button to hand it over. That suits a casual favorites list you'll check whenever. See Reviewing your client's favorites.
Lock after submission
Once your client sends a collection, they can't change it. Before they send, the confirmation tells them "You won't be able to change this collection after sending", and a locked collection shows a padlock.
Turn it on when the selection kicks off work, like designing an album or starting retouching. Leave it off for a general favorites list, where it's fine for them to keep adjusting and click Send update.
The lock follows the switch. If a client needs to change a locked collection, turn Lock after submission off and save: their collection opens up again (as do any other submitted collections in that gallery). Turn it back on once they've re-sent.
Selection requests
Below the switches, the Selection requests card lets you create collections for your client to fill, each with its own name, brief and photo limit: "Create collections for a client to fill: album picks, a retouch list, a print order, with limits." See Requesting client selections.
What your client sees
| Your settings | What your client gets |
|---|---|
| Collections off | No stars anywhere |
| Collections on, submission off | Stars and Your selections, but no send button |
| Collections and submission on | Stars, Your selections and Send to photographer |
| Lock after submission on | The same, plus a warning before sending and a padlock afterwards |
| Notes off | No notes on photos or collections |
Frequently asked questions
If I turn collections off, do my client's existing collections disappear?
No, they're kept. They stop being visible to your client because the stars and panel go away, but switch collections back on and they're there again. You can review them in Activity → Collections either way.
Can I lock one collection but not another?
No. Lock after submission applies to every collection in the gallery.
Does a selection request need submission turned on?
Only for sending. Your client can fill a selection request either way, but they can only send it to you when Allow submission is on. The request screen warns you if it's off.
Do these settings affect what guests can do?
Yes. Collection settings apply to everyone who opens the gallery, client or guest.
