Requesting client selections

Send a selection request to ask a client for a specific set of photos, such as album picks or a retouch list. The request creates a named collection in their gallery with your instructions and an optional photo limit.

Create a selection request

  1. Open the gallery and click Selection requests at the bottom of the chapter list, or open Settings → Collections and click the Selection requests card.
  2. Under Recipient email, enter your client's email.
  3. Add one or more collections. Start from a template or type your own Collection name.
  4. Optionally set Max photos, and write a brief: "what to pick, shown to the client", up to 500 characters.
  5. Click Add another for more collections (up to 10 at a time).
  6. Click Continue to share.

Each collection name has to be different for that client. If two match, you'll see "Another collection already uses this name."

Selection request templates

TemplateMax photosBrief it fills in
Album picks40"Choose the photos you want in your album."
Retouch list10"Flag the photos you would like retouched."
Print order20"Pick the photos you want printed."
Sneak peek5"Choose a few favourites to share early."
FavouritesNo limit"Gather your overall favourites."

Templates are only a starting point. Change the name, limit or brief to suit the job.

Send it to your client

After Continue to share, CoreHue creates the collections ("Selection request created") and opens the Send preset collection email, already addressed to your client. The default subject is "[your business] would like your selections: [gallery name]", and the message explains there's a collection waiting for them. Edit it however you like and send.

Sending publishes the gallery if it's still a draft or unlisted, since your client needs to be able to open it.

If you close the email without sending, the collections are kept. You can send them later from the gallery's Activity → Collections: open the collection's ⋯ menu and choose Send preset link to email it, or Share preset link for a personal link you can paste into a text or DM.

What your client sees

When your client opens the gallery with the email you used, their collections are already there, ready to fill. Each one shows your brief above it and a running count like "12 of 40 photos". If they try to add one too many, they're told "You've reached the 40-photo limit for this collection."

They star photos into the collection, add notes if you allow them, and click Send to photographer when they're done. You're notified straight away. Choosing your favorite photos walks them through it.

Change a request later

In Activity → Collections, open the collection's ⋯ menu and choose Edit selection request to change its name, limit or brief. Your client sees the changes the next time they open the gallery.

Before you send

The request screen warns you if something will get in the way:

  • Collections are turned off: "Turn on collections in Gallery settings before creating a request clients can fill."
  • Collection submission is turned off: "Clients can save photos, but they cannot send their finished selection until submission is enabled."

Both live under Settings → Collections. See Collection settings for client favorites. Selection requests also can't be created or sent while a gallery is restricted.

Tips for selections that come back quickly

  • Give a number. A limit turns a vague job into a finishable one.
  • Say what it's for. People choose differently for a wall print than for an album spread. Put it in the brief.
  • Split different jobs. An "Album picks" and a separate "Retouch list" are much easier to act on than one long list you have to interpret.
  • Lock it if work depends on it. Turn on Lock after submission so the album you've started designing doesn't change under you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a selection request to more than one person?

No. Each selection request goes to one email. Create another request for a second person, such as each half of a couple, and they'll each get their own collections.

Your client won't see the collections you created, since those belong to the email you entered. Ask them to use the same email, or send the preset link again: it takes them straight into their collections.

Can I add videos to a selection request?

No. Collections hold photos only, so selection requests can't include videos.

Does a selection request cost anything or use storage?

No. Selection requests are included on every plan and don't use storage. Photos only count when you copy a selection into a new chapter or gallery.
