# Changing a gallery's web address

> Edit the end of a gallery's link so it's short and easy to type. How gallery URLs work in CoreHue, which characters you can use, and why old links stop.

Every gallery has its own address, made from your CoreHue URL and the gallery's name, like yourname.corehue.co/smith-wedding. You can change the last part to something shorter or tidier, which is handy when you're reading a link out on the phone or printing it on a card.

## Change the gallery URL

1. Open the gallery and go to **Settings → Sharing**.
2. Edit the **Gallery URL** field. Only the part after the slash changes.
3. Wait for the check. You'll see **Available** if you can use it, or **Already taken** if you can't.
4. Click the tick beside the field to save it. You'll see "URL updated".

The tick saves the address on its own, separately from the rest of the settings.

A few rules, which CoreHue applies as you type:

- Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only. Capitals become lowercase and other characters are dropped.
- It can't start or end with a hyphen.
- It can't be empty.

Next to the field there's a copy button for the full link.

> **Changing the address breaks the old link**
The old address stops working as soon as you save the new one. Anyone who already has it, from an email, a text or a social post, will land on a page that says "This page isn't available". If you've already shared the gallery, send the new link to everyone who needs it.

## Tips for a good gallery address

- **Short and readable:** /smith-wedding beats /smith-wedding-final-edit-2026.
- **No private details:** a client's full name and date is easy to guess. If the gallery is private, protect it with a password rather than relying on an obscure address. See [Password-protecting a gallery](/docs/gallery-sharing/password-protecting-a-gallery).
- **Set it before you share,** so you never need to change it after.

## The rest of the address

The first part of the link is your CoreHue URL, which is the same for every gallery. You can change it under **Settings → Profile**, but doing that breaks every link you've ever sent. See [Changing your CoreHue URL](/docs/account/your-corehue-url).

On Plus and Pro you can also use your own domain, so galleries live at an address like photos.yourstudio.com/smith-wedding. See [Connecting a custom domain](/docs/account/connecting-a-custom-domain).

## What your client sees

Just the link. The gallery itself looks exactly the same whatever its address is, as long as they have the new one.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I make the old link redirect to the new one?

No. Once you save a new address, the old one stops working. Send the new link to anyone who had the old one.

### Why does it say Already taken?

**Already taken** means another of your galleries is already using that address, or it's a word CoreHue keeps for its own pages. Add a word or a year to make it unique, like /smith-wedding-2026.

### Does changing the gallery name change the address?

No. The address is made from the name when you create the gallery. After that, the two are separate, so renaming the gallery leaves the link alone.

### Can two photographers use the same gallery address?

Yes. Two photographers can use the same gallery address, because each gallery address sits under your own CoreHue URL, so yours only needs to be unique among your own galleries.
