# Keeping chapters private to your client

> Mark gallery chapters as client-only so only your client sees them while guests see the rest. Ideal for getting-ready shots, boudoir sets and portraits.

Some photos are for your client and nobody else. Client-only chapters let you deliver one gallery that the whole family can enjoy, while a chapter or two stays visible only to the person who booked you.

Client-only chapters work with **Client access**. Your client comes in with their private password and sees everything. Guests see every chapter except the client-only ones, and never know they're there.

## Make a chapter client-only

1. Open the gallery and go to **Settings → Access**.
2. Turn on **Client access** if it isn't on already, and click **Save**. CoreHue creates a client password. See [Giving your client private access](/docs/gallery-sharing/client-access-and-private-passwords).
3. Under **Client-only chapters**, switch on each chapter you want to keep for your client.

The chapter switches save the moment you flip them, so there's nothing else to click.

Then send your client their password. Tick **Client password** under **Include in email** when you share, or copy it from the **Share** dialog.

> **Add a gallery password for guests**
Without a gallery password, guests can open the gallery as **Guest access** with no password at all. That's fine if only the client-only chapters are private. If the rest should be private too, turn on **Gallery password** and give that one to family. See [Password-protecting a gallery](/docs/gallery-sharing/password-protecting-a-gallery).

## What's kept private

Everything in a client-only chapter is hidden from guests:

- The chapter itself, in the chapter strip and the gallery
- Its photos and videos
- Downloads from it, including whole-gallery downloads
- Its photos in any favorites list a guest makes

You still see every chapter in your editor, and **Preview** shows you the gallery with everything in it.

## Client-only vs hidden chapters

These two are easy to mix up:

| | Client-only chapter | Hidden chapter |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where | **Settings → Access** | **Settings → Sharing → Chapter visibility** |
| Your client sees it | Yes, when they come in with the client password | No |
| Guests see it | No | No |
| Needs client access | Yes | No |
| Use it for | Private photos for your client | Work you're not ready to show anyone |

If you want to hold a chapter back from everyone, including your client, hide it instead. See [Hiding chapters from visitors](/docs/gallery-sharing/hiding-chapters).

## What your client sees

Your client chooses **Client access** on the gallery's first screen and enters their client password. The gallery opens with every chapter in the strip, including the private ones. A guest who chooses **Guest access** sees the same gallery with those chapters left out. There's no padlock or hint that anything is hidden.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can a guest find a client-only chapter if they guess its address?

No. A guest can't open a client-only chapter even with its link, because CoreHue checks how each visitor came in before showing a chapter.

### My client says a chapter is missing. Why?

A client usually misses a client-only chapter because they chose **Guest access** or used the gallery password instead of their client password. Ask them to open the link in a private browser window (or tap **Log out** in the gallery, if they gave an email) and come in with **Client access**.

### Can I make every chapter client-only?

Yes, you can make every chapter client-only, but guests will then have nothing to look at. If the whole gallery is for your client only, a gallery password you give only to them is simpler.

### Do client-only chapters work without client access?

No. Turn on **Client access** first, then the **Client-only chapters** switches appear. If you later turn client access off, those chapters stay hidden from visitors.
