Want to know who's actually been looking at a gallery? Turn on email registration and every visitor gives their email before the gallery opens. The addresses land on the gallery's **Activity** tab, so you can see whether your client (and their family) have been in.

## Turn on email registration

1. Open the gallery and go to **Settings → Access**.
2. Turn on **Email registration** ("Visitors must provide an email.").
3. Click **Save**.

From then on, new visitors are asked for their email before they can see the gallery.

## See who registered

1. Open the gallery and go to the **Activity** tab.
2. Choose **Email Registration**.

Each row shows the **Email**, the **Type** of visitor, the **Device** they used and when they **Registered**. **Type** reads **Contact** for someone who came in through **Client access** and **Guest** for everyone else.

If registration is off, the section says "Email registration is off". If it's on but nobody has registered yet, you'll see "No email captures yet".

## What email registration is good for (and what it isn't)

Email registration tells you who has opened the gallery. It's handy for checking a client has seen their photos before you chase them, or for seeing how far a wedding gallery has travelled.

It isn't a lock. CoreHue doesn't verify the address, so anyone with the link can type any email and get in. If the gallery needs to stay private, add a password as well. See [Password-protecting a gallery](/docs/gallery-sharing/password-protecting-a-gallery).

Email registration also helps with downloads and favorites. When someone downloads or stars photos, the email they gave is attached, so the **Downloads** and **Collections** sections of **Activity** show who did what. See [Seeing who downloaded what](/docs/gallery-downloads/seeing-who-downloaded).

## What your client sees

Your client opens the link and sees your cover with a short form: "Please enter your details to view this gallery.", an **Email** field and a **Continue** button. If you've also set a password, it's on the same form and the button reads **Enter**. They're asked once, and the gallery remembers them on that device for 7 days.

Once they've given an email, a **Log out** option appears in the gallery's action bar, in case they're on a shared computer.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does email registration add visitors to my contacts?

No. Registered emails are listed on the gallery's **Activity** tab only. They don't create contacts.

### Can visitors skip the email step?

No. With email registration on, visitors can't skip the email step: the gallery doesn't open until they enter an email address. They can type any address, though, so treat the list as a guide rather than proof.

### Does it work with client access?

Yes. Email registration works with client access: both clients and guests are asked for their email, alongside any password. The **Type** column tells you which way each person came in.

### Do I need a password to use email registration?

No. Email registration works on its own, without a gallery password. Visitors type their email and press **Continue**, with no password involved.
