# Hiding chapters from visitors

> Hide a chapter from clients and guests viewing a published gallery while you keep working on it. Hold photos back without unlisting or deleting anything.

Sometimes a gallery is ready to share but one part isn't. Maybe the reception edits are still in progress, or you've loaded the album proofs early. Hiding a chapter keeps it out of the public gallery for everyone, while it stays right where it is in your editor.

## Hide or show a chapter with Chapter visibility

1. Open the gallery and go to **Settings → Sharing**.
2. Scroll to **Chapter visibility** ("Choose which chapters appear in the public gallery. A hidden chapter stays here in your editor.").
3. Switch a chapter off to hide it. Its label changes from **Visible to visitors** to **Hidden from visitors**.

Each switch saves straight away, and you'll see "Chapter hidden" or "Chapter visible". Switch it back on whenever you're ready, and it appears in the gallery again with everything in place.

At least one chapter has to stay visible. If you try to hide the last one, you'll see "At least one chapter must stay visible". To take the whole gallery offline, unlist it instead. See [Unlisting a gallery to take it offline](/docs/gallery-sharing/unlisting-a-gallery).

## What hiding a chapter does

A hidden chapter disappears for every visitor, your client included:

- It's gone from the chapter strip.
- Its photos and videos don't show in the gallery.
- Nothing in it can be downloaded, on its own or in a whole-gallery download.

Nothing is deleted, and your client isn't told. In your editor the chapter, its photos and its order stay exactly as they were.

One thing to watch: if you've copied a photo into another chapter that is still visible, it shows up there. Hiding works on the chapter, not on the individual photo.

## Hiding vs other ways to hold photos back

| You want to | Use |
| --- | --- |
| Hide a chapter from everyone for now | **Chapter visibility** (this page) |
| Show a chapter to your client but not their guests | [Client-only chapters](/docs/gallery-sharing/client-only-chapters) |
| Let people see a chapter but not download it | [Allowing downloads for some chapters only](/docs/gallery-downloads/downloads-by-chapter) |
| Take the whole gallery offline | [Unlisting](/docs/gallery-sharing/unlisting-a-gallery) |

> **Sneak peeks**
Upload the full gallery, hide every chapter except a small "Sneak peek" chapter, and share it. When the full edit is ready, switch the other chapters on. Your client keeps the same link the whole way through.

## What your client sees

They see the gallery as if the hidden chapter doesn't exist. There's no greyed-out tab or "coming soon" message, just the chapters you've left visible. When you switch a chapter back on, it appears in its usual place the next time they open or refresh the gallery.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will my client know I've hidden a chapter?

No. Hidden chapters leave no trace in the public gallery, and CoreHue doesn't tell your client.

### Do I need to click Save after hiding a chapter?

No. The **Chapter visibility** switches save the moment you flip them.

### Can I hide a single photo instead of a whole chapter?

No, not directly. **Chapter visibility** works on whole chapters, so move the photo into a chapter that's hidden, or delete it from the gallery if it shouldn't be there at all.

### Does hiding a chapter free up storage?

No. Photos in a hidden chapter are still in your gallery and still count toward your storage. To free up space, delete them. See [How storage works for photos and videos](/docs/plans-and-billing/how-storage-works).
