Sharing a gallery link or on social media
Sometimes a text or a WhatsApp message is the fastest way to reach a client. The share dialog puts the gallery link and every code your client needs in one place, each with its own copy button.
Open the share dialog
- Open the gallery and click Share in the header. You can also choose Share from the gallery's ⋯ menu on the Galleries list.
- Copy what you need from the rows in the Share gallery dialog.
- Paste it into a message, or use one of the social buttons at the bottom.
Share only works on a published gallery. On an unlisted gallery the button is greyed out with "Publish the gallery first to share it." See Publishing a gallery.
What's in the Share gallery dialog
Each row appears only when the gallery uses it:
| Row | What it is |
|---|---|
| Gallery link | The gallery's web address. Always there. |
| Gallery password | The password everyone needs to open the gallery, if you've set one. |
| Client password | Your client's private password, when Client access is on. |
| Download PIN | The 4-digit PIN for downloads, when the PIN is on. |
Below the rows, Share via email opens the email composer (see Sharing a gallery by email), and the buttons share the link straight to X, Facebook, Pinterest or WhatsApp.
If you send the link yourself, it helps to send the codes with it. A client who reaches a password page without the password will assume the link is broken.
Sharing on social media
The social buttons share the gallery link and title. They don't share any passwords, and they don't get around them either: if the gallery has a password, anyone who clicks through from Facebook or Pinterest is asked for it.
That makes social sharing a good fit for a styled shoot or a public event gallery you've left open, and less of a fit for a private session. If a gallery should stay private, put a password on it before you share it anywhere public. See Who can see your gallery.
Sharing a single video or photo
Every video and photo in a gallery has its own link, so you can send someone straight to the first dance without them scrolling.
- Open the gallery with Preview, or open the live link.
- Open the video (or photo) you want to share.
- Click Share video (or the share icon on a photo) and copy the link, or pick a social button.
A single-video or single-photo link still respects the gallery's protection. If the gallery has a password, the visitor is sent to the gallery to enter it first.
Your clients can do the same from their side, as long as Social sharing is on in the gallery's Experience settings. See Slideshow, social sharing and the gallery guide.
What your client sees
Whoever opens the link lands on your gallery cover. If you've set a password, client access or email registration, they're asked for that first, then the gallery opens. If you've linked to a single video or photo, it opens on its own page with a way back into the full gallery.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the Share button greyed out?
The Share button is greyed out when the gallery is unlisted, because the link won't load for anyone. Open the status badge beside the gallery name and choose Publish, then Share works again.
Does sharing to Facebook make my gallery public?
No, not on its own. Sharing to Facebook shares the link with whoever sees the post. If the gallery has a password, they still need it to get in. If it doesn't, anyone who clicks can look.
Can I share just one chapter?
Partly. Each chapter has its own page, so you can open it and copy the address from your browser. Visitors can still move to the other chapters from there, though. To keep part of a gallery out of view, hide those chapters from visitors or keep them for your client only. See Hiding chapters from visitors and Keeping chapters private to your client.
Where do I find a video's link from my dashboard?
A video's link lives in the gallery itself, not in your dashboard. Open the gallery with Preview, open the video and use Share video to copy its link. If there's no Share video button, turn on Social sharing in the gallery's Experience settings.
