How your clients watch videos
Your client doesn't need an app, an account or a YouTube link to watch gallery videos. The film plays right inside your CoreHue gallery, in your colors and fonts, with no ads and no other company's logo. Here's what they see.
Gallery video is included on the Plus and Pro plans. See CoreHue plans.
The video band
When a chapter has videos, they appear in a band of large cards just under the chapter navigation, above the photos. Each card shows your thumbnail, a play button and the running time.
On a computer, resting the pointer on a card for about two seconds plays a short, silent preview of the film over the thumbnail. Moving away brings the thumbnail back. Phones and tablets skip the preview and go straight to the player when tapped.
If a chapter holds more than 20 videos, they're split across pages with page controls under the band.
The full-screen video player
Clicking a card opens the video full screen on your gallery's background, with the title underneath. It starts playing straight away, with sound if the browser allows it and muted if not (some browsers block sound until the viewer taps).
The player has the controls your client expects:
- Play and pause, a progress bar to jump around, and the time.
- Volume and mute.
- Playback speed from 0.5× to 2×.
- A quality menu, though most people leave it on automatic.
- Picture in picture, plus AirPlay or Chromecast where the device supports them.
- Fullscreen.
Streaming adjusts to each viewer's screen and connection, up to HD on Plus and up to 4K on Pro. A grandparent on a slow connection gets smooth playback, and a client on a big screen gets the full quality.
When a chapter has more than one video, arrows on either side move to the previous or next one. On a phone, your client can swipe. The player only closes with the × at the top or the Escape key, so a stray click beside a small video won't end it.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Space or K | Play or pause |
| J / L | Back or forward 10 seconds |
| M | Mute or unmute |
| F | Fullscreen |
| ↑ / ↓ | Volume up or down |
| ← / → | Previous or next video |
| Esc | Close the player |
The playback shortcuts work once the player has focus, so your client may need to click the video first.
Sharing a video
When Social sharing is on for the gallery, each video card and the player show a share button. Share video opens a dialog with the video's own link, a Copy link button and buttons for X, Facebook, Pinterest, WhatsApp and Email.
The link opens the gallery with that video already playing, so your client can send Grandma straight to the ceremony film. Anyone who opens it still goes through the same password or email screen as the gallery itself. See Slideshow, social sharing and the gallery guide to turn sharing on or off.
Downloading a video
When downloads are allowed, a download button sits on each card and in the player. While the download file is being prepared (usually just after upload, or after you change download settings) the button shows Preparing download. See Letting clients download videos.
Watching videos on a phone
Tapping a card opens the same player, and the fullscreen button fills the whole screen. The share and download buttons sit right on each card, so nothing depends on hovering.
What video doesn't do
We'd rather you know up front:
- Videos can't be starred, so they don't go into collections or selection requests.
- Videos aren't part of the slideshow.
- Videos aren't included in the whole-gallery download. Each one downloads on its own.
- Right-click is turned off on videos, as it is on photos.
- CoreHue doesn't track video views, only downloads.

Frequently asked questions
Does my client need to install anything to watch?
No. Gallery videos play in any modern browser on a computer, phone or tablet.
Why did the video start muted?
A gallery video starts muted when the browser doesn't let a page play sound until the viewer interacts with it. Your client can tap the volume button to turn the sound on.
Can my client watch in 4K?
Yes, on the Pro plan, if you uploaded a 4K file and their screen and connection can handle it. On Plus, videos play at up to HD (1080p).
Can I see how many times a video was watched?
No. CoreHue records video downloads, not views. You'll find downloads in the gallery's Activity tab. See Seeing who downloaded what.
Why can't my client see a video I uploaded?
A video your client can't see may still be processing, its chapter may be hidden or client-only, or the video may be restricted because your account is over its video limit. See Why is my video still processing? and Restricted gallery videos.
