Delivering photos and videos your clients love
How you deliver photos and videos to clients is often the last thing they remember about working with you. A zip file buried in their inbox says something very different from a gallery with your name on it, where the film plays right above the photos. Here's how to deliver well, and the few settings that save you support messages later.
Why email, WeTransfer and USB drives fall short
The quick options all share the same problems:
- Email caps attachments at around 25 MB, so a full shoot never fits, let alone a film.
- File transfer links expire, get buried, and look nothing like your brand.
- USB drives cost money, get lost, and keep your client waiting for the post.
None of them let a client browse, pick favorites, share with family or come back months later. And none of them look like you.
What a good client gallery does
A client gallery is a private web page where your finished work lives. You send one link and your client opens it on any device, presented under your business name in the colors and type you chose. A good one lets them:
- Browse the full set, organized into chapters
- Watch the highlight film without downloading it first
- Star favorites and send the list back to you
- Download what they need, at the size you allow
- Share it with family, or keep parts of it private
Habits that make delivery feel premium
- Curate. Deliver your best work, not every frame. A tighter gallery feels more intentional.
- Organize into chapters. Getting ready, Ceremony, Portraits, Reception. Clients find what they want quickly.
- Brand it. A cover image, typeface and colors that match your style. See Customizing your gallery's design.
- Set expectations. Say how long the gallery stays up, what they can download, and when.
- Lead with the film, if there is one. Videos sit above the photos in each chapter, so they're the first thing clients see.
Delivering in CoreHue, step by step
- Create the gallery, ideally from your client's contact so it's linked to them. It opens with one chapter called Featured. See Creating a gallery.
- Upload your photos and sort them into chapters. JPEG and PNG up to 100 MB each, and RAW files on Pro. See Uploading photos to a gallery.
- Add your videos to the same chapters, on Plus and Pro. MP4, MOV, M4V and AVI files up to 20 GB each. See Delivering video in your galleries.
- Design it on the Layout tab: cover layout, typography, colors and grid. It saves as you go. See Customizing your gallery's design.
- Set privacy and downloads on the Settings tab. See Who can see your gallery and Choosing your download settings.
- Preview it as your client and as a guest. See Previewing your gallery.
- Publish and share. The first time you publish, CoreHue takes you to the share screen. Pick your client, write a note, and under Include in email tick the passwords and PIN they'll need. See Sharing a gallery by email.
Delivering video well
Video changes delivery for a lot of photographers, especially hybrid shooters and anyone working with a filmmaker. A few things to know:
- Your film streams smoothly at the right quality for each screen, on any device, so clients don't need to download it to watch.
- Plans set the ceiling. Plus stores up to 1 hour of video in total, up to HD (1080p). Pro stores up to 4 hours, up to 4K. See Video limits by plan.
- Export at the quality you want delivered. CoreHue never upscales, so a 1080p export plays and downloads at 1080p. See Video formats and export settings.
- Pick a good thumbnail. The first frame is rarely the best one. See Choosing a video thumbnail.
- Downloads are one video at a time. Videos aren't included in the whole-gallery zip, so clients download each film from its viewer. See Letting clients download videos.
- Every video has its own link. Clients can share the film with family without sharing every photo. See How your clients watch videos.
The two settings that cause the most questions
Download sizes. New galleries offer Original plus Web Size (2048px). On Plus and Pro, clients can download the full-resolution original. On Free, clients get web sizes only. If you don't want clients taking full-resolution files, turn Original off before you share. See Download sizes explained.
The download PIN. Every new gallery gets a four-digit PIN, and clients need it to download. It's the most common reason a client says downloads are broken. Include it in the share email, or turn it off under Settings → Downloads. See Using a download PIN.
What your client sees
Your client opens a cover page in your design, enters their password if you set one, then scrolls through chapters with any videos at the top. They can star favorites, play the film, download photos one at a time or the whole gallery, and share it. See What your client sees in their gallery.
After you deliver
The gallery's Activity tab shows downloads (whole gallery, single photo and single video), the collections your client sent, and who registered an email. See Seeing who downloaded what.
For an album or print order, ask your client to choose with a selection request. You set the brief and the number, they star and send. See Running an album or retouching selection.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a gallery stay online?
As long as you like. Set an expiry date if you want it to come down on a certain day, and it becomes unlisted then. See Setting a gallery expiry date.
Can clients download the whole gallery at once?
Yes. Whole-gallery downloads arrive as one or more zip files through a link that lasts 48 hours. Videos are downloaded separately. See How whole-gallery downloads work.
Can I stop people screenshotting my photos?
No website can fully block screenshots. CoreHue disables right-click saving and gives you passwords, download PINs and web-size downloads to control what leaves the gallery. See Protecting your photos online.
Do I need a paid plan to deliver video?
Yes. Gallery video is on Plus and Pro. Free galleries can hold photos only.
