Customizing how invoices look

Use the Display tab to choose the columns and details shown on an invoice. The settings change its appearance without changing the amount your client owes.

Open Payments → Settings → Display. These are your defaults: every new invoice starts with them, and you can change any of it on a single invoice from the gear icon beside Add New Row.

Column labels

Each of the four columns has a few ready-made names, plus a Custom box. Type your own label and choose Set.

ColumnReady-made choicesCustom ideas
Items columnItems, Products, ServicesCoverage, Package
Units columnQuantity, HoursDays, Sessions
Price columnPrice, RateDay rate
Amount columnAmountTotal

If you charge by the day, a column headed "Quantity" is quietly wrong. Call it Days.

Hiding columns

Switch off what you don't use:

  • Hide units column, if you never charge by quantity
  • Hide price column, when a per-unit price adds nothing next to a flat fee
  • Hide item description, for a tighter invoice

"At least one of item name or description must be visible." An invoice of unlabelled amounts isn't much use to anyone.

Selling fixed packages? Hiding units and price leaves "what it is" and "what it costs", which is all most portrait and wedding clients want to see.

Choosing which details show

Under Document visibility, choose what appears on invoices your clients see:

  • Business registration
  • Business address
  • Business contact
  • Contact address, meaning your client's address

Your client's name and email always show ("Name and email are always shown.").

Commercial clients often need your registration number and their own address before their accounts team will pay. A family portrait client doesn't need either.

The details themselves come from Business details and logo. This tab only decides whether they show, so a switch with nothing behind it shows nothing.

Your logo and overall look

Your logo comes from your business settings. The wider look of the pages your clients see, including invoices, proposals and booking pages, is set under Settings → Business → Client pages. See Branding your client pages.

CoreHue branding

On the Free plan, invoices, receipts and their PDFs show a small "Powered by CoreHue" line. On Plus and Pro you can turn it off with the CoreHue branding switch in Settings → Business. See Removing CoreHue branding.

What your client sees

The invoice page and PDF use your column names, show only the columns you've kept, and include the business and contact details you've switched on. Use Preview in the invoice editor to check before you send.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use different column names on one invoice?

Yes. Open the gear icon beside Add New Row in the invoice editor. Column names you set there apply to that invoice only.

Do these settings change invoices I've already sent?

No. Each invoice keeps its own copy of the display settings, so changing Payments → Settings → Display only shapes new invoices.

Can I change the invoice colors or fonts?

Not on the invoice itself. The invoice page your client opens follows your client page theme, which you choose under Settings → Business → Client pages. The PDF keeps a plain, printable design so it reads well wherever it's forwarded.
