# Booking details: title, description and amount

> How a CoreHue booking's title, description and amount work, what your client sees on their booking page, and why charges live on invoices.

Every booking has a **Title** and a **Description** that describe the job in plain words, and an amount that comes from its invoices. Keeping the words and the money separate means you can describe the work however you like, while the numbers always match what you've actually billed.

## Everything on a booking's page

Open any booking and you'll find, from top to bottom:

- **A notice**, when something needs you, such as **Waiting for payment** or **Ready for your confirmation**. See [Why is a booking pending?](/docs/managing-bookings/why-a-booking-is-pending)
- **The summary card**, with your client, the service, date, time, location or meeting link, and the **Total**. Its button changes the schedule.
- **Details**, the booking's title and description.
- **Booking form** or **From inquiry**, on bookings that came from your booking page or an inquiry. **Booking form** holds your client's message, referral source and questionnaire answers. **From inquiry** shows what they sent with the inquiry, such as their preferred date, location, referral source and message, and links back with **View original inquiry**.
- **Payment**, when there's money to track. It reads **Payments to review** while a client's manual payment is waiting for you.
- **Documents**, the invoices, contracts and questionnaires for this booking, with **Total invoiced**, **Paid**, **Outstanding** and **Overdue** figures.

## Editing the title and description

1. Open the booking and click **Edit** on the **Details** card.
2. Change the **Title**. Leave it blank and CoreHue uses the service name.
3. Write or update the **Description**: coverage, deliverables and anything you agreed. It's plain text, so line breaks are kept and formatting isn't.
4. Click **Save**. You'll see "Booking details saved".

A good description saves a lot of back and forth. "8 hours of coverage, second shooter, online gallery within 6 weeks" answers most of the questions your client would otherwise email you about.

## What your client sees

Your client's booking page shows the booking's title and description along with the date, time and place. Whatever you write in **Description** is visible to them, so keep private notes on the contact instead. See [Everything on a contact's page](/docs/contacts/the-contact-page).

## How the amount is worked out

A booking doesn't hold prices itself. Charges live on the booking's invoices, and the amount you see on the booking (and in the **Amount** column of your bookings list) follows them.

| Situation | What the booking shows |
| --- | --- |
| The booking has invoices | The total of its open, paid and written-off invoices |
| Booked from your booking page, nothing invoiced yet | The quote from the service page |
| You added it yourself and haven't invoiced yet | **Not set** |

A few things to know:

- **Draft and cancelled invoices don't count.** Send the invoice and the amount updates.
- **Refunds don't lower the amount.** It reflects what was billed, not what you kept. Refunds show on the invoice and the payment.
- **The first invoice is prefilled.** When a booking came from your booking page, its first invoice starts with the quote your client saw, so you don't retype it.

To bill for a booking, click **Create invoice** at the top of its page. The invoice uses the booking's currency. See [Invoices for bookings and proposals](/docs/invoices/invoices-for-bookings-and-proposals).

## Other actions on a booking

The main button changes with the booking's state: **Confirm booking** when everything is done and it's waiting on you, or **Create replacement booking** on a cancelled or expired one. Beside it are **Share booking** and **Create invoice**.

The three-dot menu holds the rest, each one appearing only when it applies: **Create contract**, **Send questionnaire**, **Edit payment deadline**, **Reopen booking**, **Mark as complete**, **Confirm before payment**, **Fix schedule record**, **Email history** and **Cancel booking**.

**Email history** is the one to remember. It lists everything CoreHue has emailed about this booking and whether it arrived, which settles "I never got it" quickly.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where did the booking items go?

Bookings no longer have their own line items. Describe the work in **Description** and put the charges on the booking's invoice, so there's only ever one set of numbers.

### Why does my booking say "Not set" for the total?

You added it yourself and haven't sent an invoice for it yet. Click **Create invoice** and send it, and the total appears.

### Can my client see the description?

Yes. A booking's **Description** shows on your client's booking page. Keep anything private in the contact's notes, which only you can see.

### I refunded part of a payment. Why didn't the booking amount go down?

The amount reflects what was billed on the invoices. Refunds are recorded against the payment and invoice instead, so you can still see the original price of the job.
