# Sending and receiving attachments

> Attach price guides, contracts and other files to client messages in CoreHue. File limits, when large files become download links, and blocked file types.

Source: https://help.corehue.co/docs/messages/attachments/

Attach documents and other supported files to a new message or reply. CoreHue sends larger batches as download links to keep the email size manageable.

> **Available on Plus and Pro**
Sending messages, attachments included, is part of the Plus and Pro plans. See [CoreHue plans](/docs/plans-and-billing/corehue-plans).

## Attaching files

1. In a new message or a reply, choose the paperclip.
2. Pick one or more files.
3. Check the cards that appear under your message. Remove any you didn't mean to add, or retry one that failed to upload.
4. Send as usual.

## The limits

| Limit | Per message |
| --- | --- |
| Number of files | Up to 20 |
| Total size | Up to 25 MB |

That's plenty for documents and a handful of images. It isn't meant for delivering finished photos or video. Use a [gallery](/docs/galleries/how-galleries-work) for that: it's built for it and gives your client a far nicer experience.

The paperclip stops accepting files once you reach twenty, and CoreHue tells you if your files go over the size limit.

## Large files become download links

Plenty of mail providers turn away heavy attachments, so CoreHue sends larger batches as download links instead. Your client clicks the link and gets the file. This happens when:

- any single file is bigger than 8 MB, or
- you attach more than 10 files, or
- the files add up to more than 12 MB.

You'll see a note under your attachments: "These files are too large to attach. They'll be sent as download links instead." You don't need to do anything. The message still sends, and nothing is dropped.

## Files you can't send

Most everyday files are fine: PDFs, Office documents, images, audio, video and archives.

Programs, scripts and web files such as HTML and SVG are blocked. These are the formats used to spread malware, and mail providers treat emails carrying them harshly, which would hurt delivery of all your emails. CoreHue won't add a blocked file to your message, and a note says "These files cannot be attached" (or how many files couldn't be attached, if some went through).

If you really need to send one, put it in a ZIP file first.

## Receiving files from clients

When your client attaches files to a reply, they appear in the thread as cards you can download. They're kept with the conversation on your client's contact.

CoreHue doesn't keep blocked file types from clients, or files beyond 25 MB in one message. Those show as **File type blocked** or **File too large** and can't be downloaded, so ask your client to send them another way, like a ZIP file or a shared link.

> **Download what you want to keep**
Deleting a conversation permanently, or emptying the Bin, deletes its attachments too, and any download links you sent in that conversation stop working for your client. Save anything important before you do.

## What your client sees

Small files arrive as normal email attachments. Larger batches arrive as download links in the email. Either way, there's nothing to sign in to.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do message attachments count toward my storage?

No. Storage counts gallery photos and covers only. Message attachments don't use it. See [How storage works](/docs/plans-and-billing/how-storage-works).

### Can I send a whole gallery as an attachment?

Not really, and you wouldn't want to. Share the gallery link instead, so your client can view and download at full quality. See [Sharing a gallery by email](/docs/gallery-sharing/sharing-a-gallery-by-email).

### Why did my file turn into a link?

Because it was bigger than 8 MB, or the batch was over 10 files or 12 MB in total. Links get through far more reliably than heavy attachments.
