# The finance report

> Use the CoreHue finance report to see every payment, refund and Stripe fee in one list, and find out what your photography business actually earned.

Source: https://help.corehue.co/docs/payments/finance-report/

The finance report lists payments, refunds, card processing fees and adjustments recorded in CoreHue. Use it to review money received after refunds and fees. It doesn't include your business expenses.

Open it from **Reports → Finance**. The page is headed **Finance Reports**.

## The three figures at the top

| Figure | What it adds up |
| --- | --- |
| **Total received** | Everything that came in |
| **Refunds** | Everything that went out: refunds, card processing fees, and any adjustment recorded as money out |
| **Earnings** | Total received minus refunds and fees |

**Earnings** is the honest number. All three follow the period and filters you've set.

## What's in the list

One row per movement, with the **Date**, a **Description**, the **Type**, the **Payment channel** and the **Amount**. Each row links to the contact and the invoice it relates to. Money in shows in green, money out in red.

| Type | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| **Payment** | Money in against an invoice |
| **Refund** | Money returned to a client |
| **Stripe Fee** | Stripe's processing fee on a card payment |
| **Adjustment** | A correction |

Fees get their own rows. A £500 card payment shows as a £500 payment and a separate fee, and **Earnings** already has the fee taken off. To see one payment's fee and what you kept, open it from **Payments**. See [Payment details and fees](/docs/payments/payment-details-and-fees).

CoreHue doesn't charge a platform fee on your client payments. You only pay Stripe's processing fees.

## Filtering

1. **Search** by contact name or invoice number.
2. Set the **Period**: All time, This week, This month, Last month, This quarter, This year, Last year, or Custom. It opens on This year.
3. Pick a **Currency** if you work in more than one. Currencies are never added together.
4. Open **Filters** to narrow by **Entry type** (All entries, Payment, Refund, Adjustment), **Transaction type** (Money in or Money out) and **Payment channel** (Cash, Check, Bank Transfer, Card (Stripe) or Other).

**Clear** resets everything back to This year.

## Entries can't be edited

The report is a record of what happened, so nothing in it can be changed. If something's wrong, the fix is a new action, like a refund or a corrected payment, and that gets its own entry. That way your history can always be trusted.

## Dates in the report

Each entry carries the moment it was recorded, which isn't always the payment date you typed. A cash payment you took on the 1st and recorded on the 5th sits on the 5th here, and on the 1st in [your payments list](/docs/payments/the-payments-list). Record payments promptly and the two line up.

## What the report isn't

- **Not a tax return.** It only covers money that went through CoreHue.
- **Not profit.** Your costs, like gear and travel, aren't in CoreHue.
- **Not a replacement for your accountant.** It's the raw material they'll ask for.

> **A ten-minute monthly habit**
Open the report once a month. It's the easiest way to spot a quiet quarter early enough to do something about it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I download the finance report?

No. The CoreHue finance report is read on screen and has no export. Filter it to the period you need and go through it with your accountant.

### Why is the Refunds figure bigger than the refunds I've given?

The **Refunds** figure in the finance report also includes Stripe card processing fees and any adjustments recorded as money out. Filter **Entry type** to Refund to see only refunds.

### Why does a payment appear on a different date here than in my payments list?

The finance report uses the date an entry was recorded in CoreHue. The payments list uses the payment date you entered. They match when you record payments on the day they arrive.

### Does the report show what clients still owe me?

No. The finance report only shows money that moved. For what clients still owe, check **Outstanding** on your [payments list](/docs/payments/the-payments-list) or your [invoices list](/docs/invoices/the-invoices-list).
