When you're over your storage limit
If you find yourself using more storage than your plan includes, nothing is deleted straight away. CoreHue hides your oldest galleries from clients, gives you 30 days to upgrade or free up space, and lifts every restriction the moment you're back under your limit.
How you end up over your limit
Uploads can't take you over: CoreHue refuses any upload that would pass your limit. You go over when your plan gets smaller while your galleries stay the same size, for example:
- Your free trial ends and your account moves to Free, with its 3.5 GB
- You cancel Plus or Pro and your plan ends
- A renewal fails and the 7-day grace period runs out
- You move from Pro to Plus with more than an hour of video
What happens straight away
Uploads pause in every gallery until you're back under your limit.
Your oldest galleries are restricted. CoreHue goes through your galleries from the oldest (by the date you created them) and restricts them one at a time, until the newer galleries that are left fit within your plan. Galleries with no photos are never restricted.
For example, say your trial ends with four galleries using 10 GB in total. On Free's 3.5 GB, CoreHue restricts the oldest, then the next oldest, and stops as soon as the remaining galleries add up to 3.5 GB or less.
In a restricted gallery you can't publish, share, send, request selections, send collections or create download links. Trying any of these shows This gallery is restricted, with a button to upgrade. Any whole-gallery download links already sent from it stop working.
Moving and copying photos is paused in every gallery while you're over.
Restricted galleries still count toward your storage until their files are deleted.
What your clients see
A client opening a restricted gallery sees a page that says "This page isn't available" and suggests the link may be wrong. They aren't told why. If a client is waiting on photos, let them know what's happening, or fix the restriction before they notice.
Galleries that aren't restricted carry on exactly as normal.
What you see
- A dot on Galleries in the sidebar, with "Some galleries are restricted"
- A notice above your gallery list, such as "2 galleries are restricted", showing how much you're using, what your plan includes, and the date files will be deleted
- A Restricted tab next to All in your gallery list, so you can see them in one place
- A Restricted badge on each affected gallery card. Hover over it for the deletion date
- Your storage figure in amber under Settings → Billing → Usage
The 30-day deadline
Restricted galleries keep all their photos for 30 full days. If you're still over your limit after that, at midnight at the start of day 31 (in your account's time zone), CoreHue permanently deletes the photos and covers in the galleries that are still restricted. Deleted files can't be recovered.
The galleries themselves aren't deleted. Each one stays in your account with its settings and activity, ready for new photos once you have space.
We email you along the way so the date never sneaks up on you:
| When | |
|---|---|
| The day galleries are restricted | You're over your storage limit |
| 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before deletion | Restricted files will be deleted in 14 days (and so on, down to "tomorrow") |
| After deletion | We've deleted your restricted files |
After the 30 days, photos in restricted galleries are gone for good, from CoreHue and from your clients. Make sure you have your own copies, and act before the date in the notice if you want to keep them online.
How to fix it
You have two options, and you can combine them.
Upgrade your plan. Go to Settings → Billing, open the Plans page and pick a plan with enough room. Restrictions lift as soon as your usage fits. See Upgrading your plan.
Free up space. Delete galleries or photos you no longer need online, including restricted ones you're happy to let go. Every deletion lowers your usage, and as it drops, your newest restricted galleries come back first. See Deleting a gallery and How storage works.
Once you're back under your limit, everything lifts by itself: restricted galleries reappear for clients, uploads start again, and the deletion is called off. You don't need to contact us.
Restricted videos
Video works the same way, measured in hours instead of gigabytes. If you have more video than your plan includes, your oldest videos are restricted until the rest fit. On Free, which has no video, every video is restricted.
A restricted video is hidden from clients, and you'll see a Restricted pill on it in the editor. You can still play or delete it. After 30 days it's permanently deleted unless you're back within your video limit. Your photos aren't affected. See Restricted gallery videos.
Frequently asked questions
Will CoreHue delete my galleries?
No. Only the photos and covers in galleries that are still restricted after 30 days are deleted. The galleries themselves, with their settings and activity, stay in your account.
Can I choose which galleries get restricted?
No. Restriction always starts with your oldest galleries. You decide what stays by what you delete: remove galleries or photos you don't need, and your newer galleries come back first.
Do I have to wait for the restrictions to lift?
No. Gallery restrictions lift as soon as your usage fits your plan, whether you upgrade or delete files.
Can I get deleted photos back?
No. Once the 30 days pass and the files in restricted galleries are deleted, they can't be recovered. That's why we email you 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before.
Do restricted galleries still use my storage?
Yes. Restricted galleries count toward your storage until their files are deleted. Deleting a restricted gallery yourself frees its space straight away.
