# Archiving, restoring or deleting a project

> Clear finished jobs off your projects board by archiving them, bring one back when a client returns, or delete a project without losing its bookings.

When a job is truly done, archive the project. It leaves your board but keeps every booking, document and gallery, and you can bring it back any time. Deleting is for projects you made by mistake, and even then the work inside is kept.

## Finishing a job

Move the project to **Delivered**, or whatever your last stage is, once the photos are with your client. It stays on the board, which is handy while you wait on an album order, prints or the final payment.

Nothing stops you moving a project to **Delivered** with an unpaid invoice or open tasks, and moving it doesn't close anything. You decide when it's done.

## Archiving a project

1. On the board, choose **More actions** (three dots) on the card. Or open the project and choose **More actions**.
2. Choose **Archive**.
3. Choose **Archive** again to confirm.

Changed your mind straight away? Choose **Undo** on the note that pops up.

An archived project moves to the **Archived** tab on the projects page. Everything in it stays exactly as it was:

- Bookings, invoices, contracts, galleries and messages carry on as normal, and still show the project's name.
- Its tasks stay where they are, and any that are overdue still show as overdue.
- A new invoice or contract for one of its bookings still joins it.

While it's archived you can read everything and edit its notes. You can't change its stage, add records, people or tasks, or pick it from an **Add to project** list.

## Restoring a project

1. Go to **Projects → All projects** and choose the **Archived** tab.
2. Choose **More actions** on the project.
3. Choose **Restore**, then **Restore** again.

You can also restore from the project's own **More actions** menu. It goes back on the board in the stage it was in before.

Restoring is the right move when a past client comes back for an anniversary shoot or a reprint, and the history lives in that project. For a whole new job, a new project usually reads better.

## Deleting a project

1. Open the project.
2. Choose **More actions**, then **Delete**.
3. Choose **Delete** to confirm.

> **Deleting can't be undone**
The project and its notes are gone for good. Its bookings, documents, messages, galleries and tasks are kept, just no longer in a project.

If you only want it off your board, archive it instead. You keep the notes and the grouping, and you can change your mind.

## When the primary contact is deleted

If you delete a project's primary contact, the project is archived and shows **Archived with its contact**. Its records stay linked, but it can't be restored, because a project always needs its primary contact. See [Deleting a contact](/docs/contacts/deleting-a-contact).

If you still need it on your board, create a new project for another contact and move the records across.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does archiving a project cancel its bookings or take its galleries offline?

No. Archiving only tidies your board. Bookings, galleries, invoices and reminders all carry on as before.

### Does deleting a project delete its invoices?

No. Invoices, bookings, contracts, questionnaires, messages, galleries and tasks all stay. Only the project and its notes are deleted.

### Can I archive several projects at once?

No. Archive them one at a time from each card's menu.

### Where do archived projects show up in search?

On the **Archived** tab. Search and filters there work just like on active projects.
