When your client submits a questionnaire, you get a notification and their answers are saved on their record. Here's where to find them, what each status means, and what you can do with a request that's still out.

## Where answers appear

- **On the request itself.** Open it from **Documents → Questionnaires**.
- **On the contact's page**, under the **Questionnaires** tab. See [Everything on a contact's page](/docs/contacts/the-contact-page).
- **On the booking**, if the questionnaire came from one.

The **Documents → Questionnaires** list shows the requests you sent by hand. Questions answered during booking and questionnaires a service sent automatically are on the booking and the contact's **Questionnaires** tab, where a **Source** column tells you where each came from: **Manual**, **Inquiry intake**, **Booking intake**, **Post-booking** or **Proposal**.

## Reading a completed questionnaire

Open the request to see a summary like "8 questions (3 required)", then every question with its answer. Optional questions your client skipped read **Not answered**.

Questions hidden by [display logic](/docs/questionnaires/conditional-logic) are still listed, grayed out and marked **Hidden**, with the reason. Questions that appeared because of a condition carry a note saying what made them show.

### Uploaded files

Files your client attached appear with their answer. Click one to preview it, or use the download arrow to save it with its original filename.

## Request statuses

| Status | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Draft** | Built but not sent |
| **Scheduled** | Waiting to go out on a set date |
| **Sending** | Its date has arrived and it's on its way |
| **Awaiting response** | With your client |
| **Completed** | Answered and submitted |
| **Expired** | The close date passed before they submitted |
| **Cancelled** | You called it off |
| **Failed** | It couldn't be sent |

**Failed** is worth acting on straight away. It's usually a mistyped email address. Fix the contact's email, check **Email history** on the request, then resend. See [My client didn't get my email](/docs/messages/when-an-email-doesnt-arrive).

## What you can do with a request

The actions on a request depend on where it's up to:

- **Send questionnaire** on a draft, **Resend questionnaire** on one that's out, and **Send now** on one that's scheduled
- **Edit** the questions, until it's answered or the close date passes
- **Share** to copy the link
- **Set expiry** or **Edit expiry**
- **Edit send schedule** on a scheduled send that hasn't gone yet
- **View questionnaire** to open the template it was built from
- **Cancel request**, or **Cancel scheduled request** on one that hasn't gone yet
- **Email history** to check what was sent and whether it arrived

## Finding a request

Filter the Questionnaires list by **All questionnaires**, **Awaiting response**, **Completed**, **Cancelled** or **Expired**, and search by number, title or contact. The list shows each request's **Sent** and **Completed** dates.

## Getting answers out

Answers are read on screen. There's no spreadsheet export, so if you need a printed shot list for the day, copy the parts you need into your notes.

## Make the most of the answers

Read answers when they arrive, not on the morning of the shoot. That way you still have time to ask about the one that doesn't make sense.

Answers stay on the contact's record too. When a family books again next year, last year's answers are often most of this year's.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will I be told when a client submits?

Yes. You get a notification email when a client submits a questionnaire, unless you've turned it off in [notification settings](/docs/account/notification-emails).

### Can I edit my client's answers?

No. Submitted questionnaire answers are kept exactly as your client gave them. If something needs correcting, ask them or send a new request.

### Why isn't a questionnaire showing in my list?

The **Documents → Questionnaires** list only shows requests you sent by hand that have gone out. Drafts, intake answers and automatic questionnaires from a booking service are on the booking and the contact's **Questionnaires** tab instead.
