A checklist splits one task into smaller steps. Use it when the job is one thing on your board but several things in practice, like packing for a wedding or getting a gallery out the door.

## Adding steps

1. Open the task.
2. Under **Checklist**, click **Add an item**.
3. Type the step and press Enter.
4. Type the next one. The field stays ready until you're done.

The count beside **Checklist** shows how far along you are, like 2/5, and the same count shows on the task's card so you can see progress from the board.

## Ticking, editing and reordering

- **Tick** the box beside a step when it's done. It shows crossed out.
- **Edit** a step by clicking its text. Press Enter to save.
- **Reorder** by dragging the handle on the left of a step.
- **Delete** a step with the **×** that appears when you point at it.

Ticking the last step doesn't complete the task. That's deliberate, since you might still want to check the work or wait on a client. Mark the task done yourself when you're ready. See [Tracking tasks on a board or list](/docs/tasks/tracking-tasks-on-a-board).

## Checklists that work well

**Wedding gear.** Bodies and backup body, lenses, charged batteries, formatted cards, flashes and triggers, the shot list, the timeline, snacks and water.

**Gallery delivery.** Cull, edit, export, upload, check the gallery on your phone, set download options, publish, send.

**Album.** Pick the photos, send them to your album designer or lab, share the proofs, make changes, final sign-off, order, check the print.

**New inquiry follow-up.** Reply within a day, send pricing, follow up after three days, follow up after a week.

Keep each checklist to the steps you'd actually forget. If a step has its own deadline, like album proofs due back from your client, make it a separate task with its own due date so it can remind you.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I add a checklist when I first create a task?

Not in the New task window. Create the task, choose **Open** on the note that appears, and add your steps there.

### Is there a limit on checklist steps?

Yes, 100 steps per task. If you're near that, the job probably wants splitting into a few tasks.

### Can I reuse a checklist on another task?

No, there are no checklist templates. Keep your go-to lists in a note on your phone and add the steps from there, one at a time.
