# Setting up task reminders

> Get reminded before a task is due, and again if it slips, in the app or in one morning email. How photographers set CoreHue task reminders and turn them off.

To begin with, every task with a due date reminds you in the app on the morning it's due. You choose what else happens: a nudge a week or a day ahead, a prod if it's still not done after the date, and whether any of it comes by email.

These reminders are for you. They never go to your clients. For reminders your clients get, see [Setting up automatic reminders](/docs/account/automatic-reminders).

## When reminders go out

Reminders arrive at 9:00am on the days you pick, in the time zone set in [Your profile settings](/docs/account/your-profile):

| Before | On the day | After, if still unfinished |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **2 weeks before**, **1 week before**, **3 days before**, **1 day before** | **On the due date** | **1 day after**, **3 days after**, **1 week after**, **2 weeks after** |

Each one can be **In-app**, **Email**, or both. They stop as soon as a task is completed or cancelled, and a task with no due date never sends any.

A reminder whose day has already passed when you set the date isn't sent late. Give a task a date three days away and the **1 week before** reminder is skipped.

## Setting your usual reminders

1. Go to **Projects → Settings** and open the **Reminders** tab.
2. Tick **In-app** or **Email** beside each timing you want.

Changes save as you tick, and apply to every task that uses your usual reminders, including ones you've already created.

A good starting point: **1 day before** by email, **On the due date** in the app, and **1 day after** in both, so nothing quietly goes overdue.

## Changing reminders for one task

Some tasks need more warning, like ordering an album two weeks before a client's anniversary.

1. Open the task.
2. Choose **Reminders** in the panel on the right.
3. Turn off **Use the default reminders**.
4. Tick the timings you want for this task.
5. Choose **Save**.

The task keeps its own reminders from then on, even if you change your usual ones. Turn **Use the default reminders** back on to undo. To silence a task completely, untick everything and its reminders read **Off**.

You can do the same while creating a task. Once you've set a due date, choose **Default reminders** in the New task window.

## What you get

**In the app**, each reminder appears in your notifications with the task's title, when it's due, like "Due tomorrow" or "Overdue by 3 days", and its project. Click it to open the task.

**By email**, you get one email each morning, however many reminders fall that day. It lists each task with when it's due and its project, earliest deadline first, so anything overdue sits at the top. Click a title to open that task, or **Open tasks** to see them all.

## Turning reminder emails on or off

The morning email is on to begin with. To turn it off:

1. Go to **Settings → Notifications**.
2. Find **Tasks**.
3. Switch off **Daily task reminder email**.

In-app reminders keep working. While the email is off, a note on the **Reminders** tab of **Projects → Settings** says so. The **Notification emails** switch at the top of the same page pauses this email too. See [Choosing which notifications you get](/docs/account/notification-emails).

## Frequently asked questions

### I ticked Email but no reminder email came. Why?

Check **Daily task reminder email** and **Notification emails** in **Settings → Notifications**. Then check the task still has a due date, isn't finished, and that the reminder's day hadn't already passed when you set it.

### Can I choose a different time than 9:00am?

No. Every reminder goes out at 9:00am in your time zone.

### Does a reminder go out for a time I set on the task?

Reminders count days, not hours. A task due at 3:00pm still gets its **On the due date** reminder at 9:00am that morning.

### Can I get a reminder for a task without a due date?

No. Reminders count from the due date, so add one. If the exact day doesn't matter, a rough date still gets the task in front of you.
