Uploads failing or slow
An upload that stalls halfway through a 600-photo wedding is a real headache. It usually comes down to one of a few things, and the upload panel often tells you which.
Quick checklist
Work down this list from the top.
- The file type isn't accepted. Galleries take JPEG and PNG photos only. HEIC (iPhone photos), TIFF, WebP, AVIF and GIF are turned away with a toast like "Only JPEG, PNG… can be uploaded." and the row reads File not supported. Export those files as JPEG and upload again. See Supported photo and video file types.
- The file is too big. Each photo must be under 100 MB ("Each file must be under 100 MB.", row Too large). Each video must be under 20 GB ("Each video must be under 20 GB.", row Video too large). A JPEG over 100 MB is rare, so check you didn't export a TIFF or a huge panorama by mistake.
- Your storage is full. You'll see "Storage full. Upgrade or free up space to upload." and rows marked Storage full. Delete photos you no longer need or upgrade. See How storage works.
- Your connection dropped. If CoreHue shows "You're offline. Changes won't be saved until you reconnect.", wait for it to clear. Uploads that failed because the connection dropped or timed out start again on their own when you're back online. Anything still in the Failed tab can be retried.
- It's a video or RAW file your plan doesn't include. Video needs Plus or Pro ("Video uploads are available on Plus and Pro."). RAW files need Pro and the RAW image uploads switch in Business settings. See I'm seeing an upgrade prompt for every message you might get.
- The photos are already there. If you see Duplicate files found, those files already exist in this chapter or are uploading right now. CoreHue skips the duplicates and uploads the rest.
Reading the upload panel
The panel in the bottom corner follows every upload, even while you move around CoreHue.
- Uploading, Completed and Failed tabs split up your files.
- Each row shows Waiting, Uploading, Finishing or Uploaded, with the file size.
- A failed row has its own retry button, and Retry failed tries every failed file again in one go.
- Cancel upload stops anything that hasn't started yet ("Pending uploads will be stopped.").
Rows that failed for a reason a retry can't fix, like File not supported or Storage full, aren't retried. Fix the cause first, then add those files again.
When uploads are slow
Upload speed is mostly your internet connection. Most home and studio connections upload far slower than they download, so a gallery that would download in minutes can take much longer to send.
A few things make a real difference:
- Use a computer on Wi-Fi or a cable if you can. CoreHue uploads several files at once from a computer, fewer from a phone or tablet, and one at a time on a very slow connection or with data saver on.
- Export at the size you deliver. A sensible web-ready JPEG is a fraction of the size of a full-quality export and looks the same in a gallery. If you offer original downloads for printing, keep quality high but skip anything bigger than your client needs.
- Upload in batches by chapter. Smaller batches are easier to keep an eye on and quicker to retry if something goes wrong.
- Keep the tab open. You can work elsewhere in CoreHue while files upload. Closing or refreshing the tab asks you to confirm first, and signing out cancels uploads in progress ("You have uploads in progress. Logging out will cancel them.").
For more on planning a big delivery, see Tips for uploading large galleries.
Uploaded, but stuck on Processing
Once a photo arrives, CoreHue makes the viewing sizes your client sees. Tiles show Processing while that happens. If one ends up as Processing failed, or the chapter says "N images couldn't be processed, please try again.", see When photos fail to process. Videos take longer; see Why is my video still processing?
Frequently asked questions
Can I leave the page while photos upload?
You can move to other pages inside CoreHue and the upload carries on. Closing the tab, refreshing it or signing out stops uploads that haven't finished.
Why were some files skipped when I dragged in a folder?
CoreHue only adds files it can accept, and tells you how many it skipped and why in a toast, such as "3 files skipped." Usually those are HEIC, TIFF or sidecar files sitting in the same folder.
Can I upload from my phone?
Yes. Use Add media (or Add photos on the Free plan) to pick files. It's slower than a computer, and dragging photos around isn't available on touch screens.
My iPhone photos won't upload. Why?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, which galleries don't accept. Export or share them as JPEG first, or set the camera to save in the most compatible format.
